Stage 1: Apply

There are a number of ways to apply for overseas employment here at the UK's Number One Independent Ski Tour Operator.

  1.      Submit an on-line application form, or

  2.      Print off an application form from the website and send it to us by post, or

  3.      Request an application pack from the website, or

  4.      Call our Overseas Recruitment Team and we can post out an application form

  5. Hints and Tips

The application form will be the first chance you have to sell yourself to us. We see thousands of applications every year, so try and make sure that yours leaves a lasting impression on us.

Read through the entire form first. This will help you avoid repeating yourself unnecessarily.

Complete all sections honestly, especially the section that asks about you. This helps us get an idea of your character and suitability for different roles.

Ensure you supply a passport size photo, your passport number and your National Insurance Number.

Take your time to complete the application task - we do notice who has made a real effort!

Stage 2: The Interview

We read through all the many application forms. Then we select the very best and invite the successful candidates to attend one of our nationwide interviews.

The interviews can be either group interviews or individual ones, and contain a number of different tasks to be completed as a group and independently. Please click here for the tasks and some additional guidance.  We also ask you questions about yourself and your experience and give you the opportunity to question us. For our resort operations and senior catering roles the successful completion of the group interview will lead to a 1:1 interview.

Please note that all group interviews last approximately 3 hours.

Hints and Tips

Leave home early to ensure you arrive at the interview in plenty of time.

Dress appropriately - we are a professional company.

Prepare any tasks well in advance, and practice them before the interview using any appropriate visual aids.

Be prepared to answer questions on your career history and future plans.

Stage 3: Job Offer

Shortly after the interview (usually no more than 24 hours) we will contact you, usually by phone, to let you know whether or not your interview was successful. We will then send you a contract confirming your wage and our terms and conditions of employment. You have 7 days to sign and return the contract and pay your £100 commitment bond (£250 for Lapland) which is fully refundable at the end of a successfully completed season.

We will then contact your two referees, and subject to good references your place on our programme will be secure. For child carers and managers we will also apply for a CRB check.

Hints and Tips

Now is the time to check that your passport  is valid and in date.

Additional Information Concerning Criminal Record Bureau (CRB)
Checks on Child Carers

As is normal in all situations where people are employed who will have responsibility for looking after children, we do CRB checks on all child care staff.

Should you have a criminal record, this will not necessarily bar you from working with us. In such circumstances, your employment will depend on the circumstances and background of your offences. Our policy on the employment of people with a criminal record is on the attached link: Esprit Holidays Policy for the Employment of Ex-Offenders.

Our policy for the handling of CRB Disclosures is on this link: Esprit Holidays Policy for the Handling of CRB Disclosures

The CRB has its own Code of Practice and a copy of this is held in the Overseas Personnel Department. If you wish to see it arrangements can be made for this to be done. Alternatively it can be viewed on their web site www.crb.gov.uk

Stage 4: Information Exchange

Once we have received your two references we will ask for various pieces of information from you. These will include bank account details, emergency contact information, uniform sizes and a P45 or P46. This will enable us to have everything set up and ready for your arrival on our overseas training course.

While collecting this information we are always available to answer any questions you may have. If we have an email address for you we will sign you up to our Staff Newsletter and we will send you additional information this way. We will also provide you with relevant information such as travel, luggage allowance and any paperwork you will need to bring with you.

Stage 5: Leave UK for Training

After waiting for what may have seemed an age since your first contact with us, it's time to leave for the experience of a lifetime. Several buses will drive catering and child care staff and other colleagues from our head office in Fleet to your training location in Europe. This will take place around the end of November.

Our resort operations staff will usually be flown from the UK to Geneva slightly earlier (around the 25th of November) for an intensive management training course, before heading out to other training locations to assist with the training of catering and child care staff.

Lapland Staff
Our Lapland staff will be flown to Finland from a London airport in mid November. Some staff may be required to come for additional training in our Fleet office.

Hints and Tips

Remember your EHIC (European Health Insurance Card).

The EHIC card replaces the old Form E111, and you must have one. You can get the form to apply for yours at the post office, or apply on-line at http://www.ehic.org.uk

You will only be allowed one case, plus hand luggage and any skiing equipment. (Please inform us beforehand if you are taking equipment.)

Make sure you pack the appropriate clothing - it will be cold!

Remember your passport. Check that it is valid and in date long before departure.

You will need some money, as you will not be paid for two weeks.

An alarm clock will become your best friend; we recommend a good loud one!

Leave your parents the head office number in case they need to contact you urgently.

Stage 6: Training

Training will usually commence the day after your arrival in Europe. It is also a continuation of the interview process, and requires your commitment and focus. Your position with us is not guaranteed until successful completion of the training course.

Training is demanding and can be tiring, but it will stand you in good stead for the first guest arrivals. It is also a lot of fun; not only a time to learn your role and responsibilities but also a great opportunity to meet and bond with fellow team mates.

Stage 7: Arrival in your resort

You will arrive in resort and be allocated your accommodation for the season about a week before guests arrive. During this week you and the rest of the team will make the resort and our properties ready for your first arrivals. It is a busy time but absolutely necessary, and will give you the opportunity to get to know your new surroundings and settle into your resort.
